Another Guest Post from Perri, the intern extraordinaire!
You’ve all heard of Tumblr, but do you know how it works or why it is different from other social media sites?
To put it as simply as possible, Tumblr is the middle ground between a full blog and a micro-blog. It is 100% free and it doesn’t constantly hound you with advertisements. Tumblr is for everyone – from the most technologically impaired to the professional coder. It has endless possibilities and is so flexible that it can be used for podcasting, vlogging, photo blogging, and just about anything else.
Getting Started:
Signing up for your own tumblog is as easy as typing in your email address and making up a password and URL. Make sure your URL is short and catchy so that it can by typed and remembered easily.
Posting:
After signing up, you can start blogging right away. There are six kinds of content you can post on your tumblog: photo, quote, link, chat, audio, and video. When you first start out, your tumblog will have example posts to show you how to get started. To post, just click one of the content icons and start uploading/typing/recording. Because each of these has its own template, posting is very straightforward and easy.
The Tumblr Bookmarklet enables you to share anything from the Internet on your tumblog – just drag the bookmarklet icon to your toolbar and click it whenever you come across something cool on the web.
Tumblr is extremely compatible with other social media sites. If you want, it can automatically import your posts from other sites. It can also go the other way around, posting your tumblog posts to your Twitter and Facebook.
Other cool posting features:
- Audio Posts enable you to call Tumblr and record a post
- Tumblr Queue lets you set a later date for your content to be posted
- Tumblr iPhone App is a new feature that makes mobile posting even easier
