Pig Out in the Park Tweet & Facebook Fail

Yes, I admit it. As the Pig Out in the Park Pig, I have failed you. You might think that after weeks, nay months!, of hard work, the day has actually arrived and Design Spike is off the hook. Pig Out in the Park is here. Design Spike can finally relax. NOT!

We’re done.

Not so fast, Porky. We’ve still got the matter of maintaining the Pig Out in the Park Twitter stream and Facebook Page. And that leads me to my first lesson.

DON’T trust scheduling posts ever. And I mean EVER. As the oink of Pig Out in the Park, I have failed Spokane on both Twitter & Facebook. We got the great idea to schedule little reminders of who was going on stage when via Hootsuite. Something like, “Hey, five minutes till Too Slim and the Taildraggers hit the Clock Tower stage. See you there!”  So, I spent two hours scheduling over 75 concerts. Then it was off to Pig Out in the Park to take pictures, post ‘em, and say hello to my little friends.

Yea, the first sign of danger was a Facebook post announcing that Carbon Leaf was hitting the stage at what would be 8:45 pm 9/1/11. Uh, they’re not even in Spokane. That was followed by a tweet from one of my favorite SpokanePigOut followers,  CadChica rt’ing that the legendary Leon Russell was taking in the stage at 9:05. Um, schedule check. Leon Russell will not be on stage until 9:15 TONIGHT. I was watching Charlie Musselwhite, who is definitely NOT singing Tight Rope nor is he playing the piano. I looked at SpokanePigOut’s Twitter & Facebook feed only to realize I had committed a Pig Out in the Park Tweet & Facebook fail.

I left in the middle of Charlie Musselwhite, ran home, booted up the laptop (otherwise known as Mac the Savior) and started repairing my errors complete with several online apologies. I mean a post played is a post laid. Yes, I deleted them as quickly as possible, not from embarrassment, but from non-factual information. What? I’m gonna leave up a post saying 10 Minutes Down is going on stage in five when they’re scheduled for 7:30 Sunday night. I think not. Even if I had commented “Ignore This!”, someone is gonna miss the comment. Just sayin’.

So, lesson learned. I’m doing all the band announcement posts the “old fashioned way” (now, that makes me laugh…Tweeting and Facebooking the old fashioned way??) and I again apologize to all the Piggy Outers making their way down to see  the Trailer Park Girls three days before they are set to play.

Learnin’ it the hard way; Queen Narcissa has been schooled.

Happy Pig Out everyone. Go “ “Eat something, for gosh sakes.’ That’s how we pay the bands.”
